  • What are dermal fillers?
Often called the “liquid facelift,” dermal fillers are Hyaluronic Acid (HA) in gel form. HA is a naturally occurring sugar that makes up skin structure. Along with Collagen and Elastin, HA can hold up to 1,000 times its molecular weight in water, making it a key player in soft, plump, smooth skin. Overtime, skin loses HA and ultimately, elasticity. When gravity takes over, precise injection of the filler gel will instantly add subtle volume to problem areas thinning with age and begin to replenish collagen naturally. We use Juvéderm products, each with varying aesthetic outcomes. During your consultation, we will discuss your beauty goals and tailor recommendations to you.
  • What are neuromodulators (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport)?
Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are brand names for a neurotoxin protein solution derived from Clostridium botulinum bacteria. They differ only slightly on the molecular level, but work the same way: the protein derivative is highly diluted with saline and injected in small amounts to relax the muscle contraction that causes lines and wrinkles. The product is very safe and used on millions of people every year without consequence. There is no cost difference between the three.
  • Are there any contraindications to dermal fillers & botox?
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive, avoid these products–they have not been studied in these populations. If you have any allergy to the product ingredients, including lidocaine, or an active infection at the injection site, avoid these procedures. Those with neuromuscular disorders should avoid Botox. Those who want fillers need to avoid dental work and vaccinations 2 weeks before and after.
  • What’s the down time associated with Botox and fillers? Are there any side effects?
Botox There is little to no downtime with Botox. It’s recommended to stay upright for 4 hours post procedure, avoid hats and headbands day-of, and avoid exercise for 24hrs while the product sets. There may be slight bruising at the injection site, which often resolves in a few days. Avoid facials and laser treatments for 2 weeks. Fillers There is minimal downtime with Fillers. Most commonly there’s slight bruising, swelling, and/or tenderness at the injection site for the first few days. It’s recommended to avoid exercise and prolonged pressure/stomach or side-sleeping 24hrs while the product initially sets. Avoid facials and laser treatments for 2 weeks.
  • Are Botox and fillers reversible?
Some fillers are immediately reversible if necessary. The body will naturally break them down in 6-24 months depending on the product and your metabolism. Botox is not immediately reversible, but will typically wear off in about 3—4 months.
  • When will I start seeing results?
Fillers Immediately! However, the product may take 3-4 weeks to fully settle. Botox Some may see results in as little as a few days, but full results can take up to 2 weeks for the desired relaxation effect.
  • Once I start Botox, do I have to keep up with it?
No. Most people like the results of Botox and will keep doing it. The more consistently Botox is used, the less frequently it is needed. However, should you stop, there is no long term effect or repercussion from use.
  • How many Botox units will I need?
Below you will find the typical range for Botox units based on affected area: Forehead: 10-20 units Brow line: 15-30 units Crow’s feet: 15-25 units *These numbers are common ranges, but depend on age, gender (men often need more), lifestyle, wrinkle characteristics, and skin type. No patient or facial anatomy are the same; accurate numbers will be personalized to you at time of consult.
  • Will the procedure hurt?
The procedures are near painless! In fact, many people do not even feel the Botox injections. Slight discomfort is possible with fillers, but typically very well tolerated due to their Lidocaine component. Topical numbing is also available.
  • Who are Botox and fillers for?
Anyone over 18 years old, not pregnant/ breastfeeding, or with an ingredient allergy.
  • What can I expect out of my appointment?
You will be asked to fill out a short medical history and consent to treat and take photos. Photos are helpful to document/compare your before and after results and will be limited to medical documentation unless permission is granted. Next, we will review your history and conduct a 5-10 minute consultation to tailor your treatment with your goals in mind, medical expertise, and professionalism. You can expect natural results that never look fake or like you’ve had “work done.” From there Botox will take about 20 more minutes (30 mins total) and fillers about 30 more minutes (45 mins total).
  • Will my treatment look natural?
Fillers and Botox should not look unnatural, only rejuvenate a refreshed version of yourself. With personalized consultation, expertise of anatomy and injection, your treatment should ALWAYS look natural and like YOU. Our intention at KMA is never to change you–after all, you are already amazing! We aim for full satisfaction of results by starting our treatments as conservatively as desired/recommended and always welcome questions and feedback.
